Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work? The Keg-Meter will measure and display the amount of 12 ounce beers left in your keg. It also shows you the temperature of the fridge! What's makes the Keg-Meter affordable and practical is the sensor. It uses a simple inexpensive sensor that attaches to your beer line to determine beer flow. Most devices, like the one's commercially available, use expensive flow meters which don't make it practical for home use. The Keg-Meter was painstakingly designed to be affordable for anyone with a keg fridge yet offer a digital display of the keg's contents and temperature. Commercial versions can cost several hundreds of dollars! No kidding! And are designed for inventory tracking at bars and restaurants not for your personal keg. The Keg-Meter is less precise than those models (+/- 10 beers per keg) but it is plenty accurate for home use. The Keg-Meter needs a one-time calibration when first installed to determine the flow rate of your keg system. After that, the Keg-Meter will count down the number of 12 ounce beers left in your keg(165 for 1/2 barrel, 82 for 1/4 barrel,53 for 1/6 barrel) and ever keg after that so you will always know what's in your keg. Note: the Keg-Meter cannot be used with systems using pressures higher than 12psi.
where does it mount? The Keg-Meter mounts directly onto the front of your keg fridge or the top of a countertop height keg fridge with double sided tape.
For basic keg fridges you must drill a ~1/4" hole for the sensor wires to go through.
Tower Mount style Keg-Meters do not require any
modification to your keg fridge. Simply
remove the cap on the 3" tower, run Keg-Meter
wires down the tower, and place Keg-Meter on top
of tower.
Can it be used with hand pumps? No. The Keg-Meter is for use only with CO2 pressurized beer keg systems only. (No nitrous systems either).
How does it install?
Tower Mount:
The Tower Mount Keg-Meter is made to fit on top of a 3" round tower. Remove the existing top tower cover. Feed Keg-Meter wires down tower into refrigerator. Slide Keg-Meter over the top of the tower. Install sensor in the beer tubing just below the tower inside of the fridge.
Standard Mount: Attach sensor 'tee' in the beer
line about 6"-12" from the faucet connection.
Drill a 1/4" hole in the keg fridge near the
faucet. Run wires through hole and attach to
sensor. Mount Keg-Meter to the fridge using
double sided tape. Also see installation instructions.
how do I calibrate it? The Keg-Meter requires you to pour a 'calibration beer' when first installed. You may need to recalibrate once every couple of kegs depending on changes in types of beer and CO2 pressure stability.
